“Sorry!” said Anthea Thimble. “I mean, sorry for saying that too. Sorry,” the mother-of-two said with a laugh. “I am such an idiot. Sorry, you’re interviewing me. Sorry. I did it again. Arrrghhh, sorry!”
Anthea knows she has a problem, but she can’t seem to stop apologising. “It’s like I’m addicted to it. I must say sorry hundreds of times a day. Sorry, maybe more—Thousands of times. Sorry.”
Behavioural psychologist Sue McCrae reports that excessive apologising is a conditioned behaviour that is increasingly common with women. “According to recent statistics, this affliction affects one in five women. Sorry, I mean one in three. Sorry, about that. So sorry!”
