Since having kids, Lena Morris has barely watched the news and is ignorant of current affairs. When getting coffee with her team and the topic of Russia invading Ukraine was raised, Lena didn’t want to appear uninformed, so took a contentious position.
She said, “Maybe Putin has a point?” To which a colleague demanded, “How so, Lena?”
Lena didn’t want to back down so added, “I’m just saying, I think there are probably good points on both sides.”
Playing devil’s advocate or sitting on the fence are approaches that have served Lena well in discussions about political affairs. Rather than keeping quiet and possibly learning something, Lena often adds her two cents’ worth, even if she is contributing nothing to the conversation.
She went on to say, “There are usually two sides to every story.”
In a later discussion about neo-Nazis, Lena was heard saying, “I think extremism – in any form – can be dangerous.”
More to come.
