My Kid Licked A Shop Apple: How I Distanced Myself Like The PM Distanced Himself From Hillsong
March 28, 2022

Last week, Prime Minister, Scott Morrison tried to distance himself from Hillsong founder Brian Houston who is facing harassment allegations. Morrison said he hasn’t attended Hillsong for over 15 years, despite photos circulating of him and wife Jenny attending Hillsong as guests of honour in 2019.

When I was in the supermarket and my daughter Ava licked an apple that I didn’t want to buy, I knew what I had to do: channel Scomo.

I grabbed Ava and we slowly backed away as if nothing had happened. We had nearly got away with it until a Store Manager approached, “I think your child licked that apple. You’ll have to buy it.”

I denied it. When the Store Manager showed me CCTV footage of Ava licking the apple, I continued to deny it. I said firmly, “I haven’t attended Coles in 15 years. I now go to my local IGA.”

The Manager said, “You’re standing in Coles right now.”

She had me there. I thought to myself, ‘What would Scotty do?’ Then it hit me. Gaslight.

I looked the Manager straight in the eye and said, “Wow, calm down. That did not happen. You sound craaaaazy.”
