“It’s like losing a member of the family. A member of the family that you haven’t seen in years and forgot they even existed.”

Melanie Lardy, 38, has been tuning in to the festivities surrounding the end of Neighbours. This week is the first time Melanie has watched the soap since 2005. She told Babbler, “I didn’t know Neighbours was still on. Once they took it off the main channel, I forgot it existed.”

It’s a bitter-sweet moment for the show. Their star-studded finale has sent the show off in style and has reminded audiences what they are about to lose. Producers have hit back at the public, “Well, where were you the past ten years?!”

In a media frenzy surrounding the final week, Australians have revisited some of the best moments from the nearly 9000 episodes. Moments like when Susan slipped on milk and thought she was 16 years old, or when Erinsborough was hit with a tornado, and a whole sequence from inside Bouncer the dog’s dream.

Melanie says, “It’s been great. Remembering all the old characters and seeing how much work all of the actors have had. I wish it wasn’t ending, I’d probably start watching it again.”
