About Us
Babbler is a news, opinion and lifestyle media outlet for Australian women.
Babbler is brought to you by a team of reporters based in Australia and most major capitals around the world.
It is difficult to estimate the number of hands and eyes and brains that are involved in bringing Babbler to our audience, but if we had to, we would put it at well over 120,000.
This ensures that the articles we bring you are thorough, factual, and never made up or written on the fly. No stone is left unturned. It is not unusual for us to spend upwards of minutes, ensuring that each is word perfect.
We are fiercely independent and do not shy away from speaking truth to power – especially when it is convenient and can be done from home without having to put outside clothes on.
We tell the stories the mainstream media are too scared to touch… And not because they’re not good stories, they are… Seriously.
We are proud to say our readership is now well into double figures and is enjoyed by people (and life-matter) of the female variety across Australia, Earth, and across various muti-verses and galaxies.
As far as we know, we are the only source of media for women.
Juliet Veal, Editor In Chief
Babbler was founded by magazine editor, newspaper reporter, TV host and national treasure, Juliet Veal.
Juliet discovered a love of journalism when she got a cadetship at ‘Thyme’ magazine. Here, she thrived under the leadership of the formidable Verna Hobbs, who died in a tobogganing accident just one week into Juliet’s stint with the publication.
Juliet was fired shortly after, due to an incident with the lunchroom microwave.
She then worked for a slew of media corporations, from rural newspapers to major television networks, to magazines, before realising they were all missing one major thing.
Juliet, a self-identified ‘big thinker,’ says, “Babbler was born from a crazy idea around the kitchen table. It’s hard to imagine now, but before Babbler, people hadn’t considered that women exist.”
Babbler holds a mirror up to the lives of Australian women.
“We tell real stories, about real people. Plus, we have lots of advice for women, on all manner of topics, to help them to learn how to be better.”
Juliet Veal narrowly missed out on being nominated for the prestigious Top 50,000 Women In Media Awards.
Juliet says, “Sometimes our stories are well-researched, but often they’re not. That’s what makes us different. We don’t hold ourselves accountable to journalistic standards and codes of conduct. We are working outside the paradigm.”
Her colleagues have described her as “Unusual,” “Too confident” and “Please don’t tell her I said that.”
Born to a French mother and an Australian father, Juliet Veal considers herself an international citizen. She can relate to people from all walks of life, from all over the globe, but especially those from similar backgrounds to hers.
Mother to six kids (baby goats) and to four children, Juliet enjoys solo walks on the beach and going to work.
Babbler has received marketing funding support from the Mornington Peninsula Shire.
